Realistic uniforms, clothing, architecture, UI elements for different cultures and nations etc. Do it properly and with full attention and quality, like what they did with Napoleon and Shogun 2 (and Attila and to an extent Rome 2 and Troy). If I want my Ottoman Empire to build drilled rifle armies and star forts, I shouldn't have to wait until Victorian age to do so.ĭon't do it on an unfinished, unmoddable, experimental engine, launch it as a complete mess and then abandon it in one year like they did with original Empire. If I want to take Norway and form a major seafaring empire, restore the Caliphate as Hashemite state of Hijaz, make Saxony the major power of Germany, create a new Indian imperial dynasty as Mysore/Hyderabad, drive out the Europeans as an American tribe, then let me.Ĭreate a modernization system, whereby nations outside of Europe can undergo a hard but playable ordeal, to slowly but fully modernize and attain same modern technological level. Revolutions and counter revolutions continued the trend. Who ruled what was a big point of contention throughout this period (and beyond). Too much fun stuff to list.Ī character system that includes not just rulers/generals/admirals, but governors, viceroys, influential members of society and economy, and agents (like in TW3K).įamily tree and dynasty system. 1770s for Age of Revolutions, around 1800 for Napoleonic Wars campaign, 1660s for Age of Absolutism and so on. More of Siberia, Central Asia and Pacific areas to conquer and fight in, as well as more provinces in India, Middle East, Europe and Americas.ĭLCs/free patches should introduce campaigns that make various points in timeline playable on the same map (kinda like TW3K). I think the map can be sufficiently stretched to China at least in parts if not whole (Qing conquest, Ming loyalist rebellions, pirate age), Japan (Tokugawa Shogunate was only recently established, isolationism wasn't concrete yet), Southeast Asia (playground of British and Dutch colonialism for spices, and wars on the mainland involving Vietnam, Siam, Burma and so on), larger parts of northern Africa (Islamic world, Ottomans, oriental Christian lords of Nubia, Ethiopia, Berber Sahara lands, and possibly West Africa/Mali region that was already in full contact with the world during the medieval age) and coastal parts of Africa elsewhere. Larger world map with more cultures and nations, and with large number of settlements. Much better than the only 100-year campaign of the original Empire. The game ends just before modern industrial technology becomes widespread (trains, factories, planes, trench warfare, tanks, 20km+ range artillery, truck transport, things that TW games can barely handle - Victorian tech of FoTS was a big stretch even though it was fun). But in practical Total War gameplay, the mechanisms remain the same throughout the two centuries. Politically, you have classical monarchies, colonialism and religious focus for the first half of the game, and then enlightenment, revolution and modernism in the second half. You have late-stage Pike & Shot units, the fully professional musketeer armies, the levee-en-masse revolutionary war armies of the modern style, and the endgame has enough time to see steam technology and rifles enter full usage. Things do not change much in terms of gameplay if done correctly. 1648-1848 timeline (the age of muskets and sail) resulting in a great variety of factions, units, campaign actions and storytelling.Īnd yes, the same game can handle this 200 year timeline. That game had unrealized potential written all over it.
